In the News

OK, so it doesn't sound like Tony Grossi is completely thrilled about the Browns free agency. At least Browns get one starter

But Terry Pluto is cool with it. Browns find some blocks to build line

The Big-Ten coaches must have read our article about how overrated Greg Oden is. Dynamic freshman gets dunked

The Indians are getting their money's worth out Roberto Hernandez. He's now Fausto Carmona's interpreter. Carmona closes the book on last season's mystery

A Cleveland superstar who doesn't want the "distraction" of endorsement deals. LeBron James is turning over in his grave sponsored by "Tombs and More." Let Sizemore's star cut through gloom

Done smashing countertops and punching holes in press box walls, the former defensive coordinator of the "U" is heading to Columbus. New cornerbacks coach returns to state

The morale of the headliner for oden is that everyone knows he is one of the best in the nation and would pick him when it counts. I suppose anyone can look at stats on paper and bash him or talk about oden not being a first teamer, but its his mere presence on the court that has led the buckeyes(with help) to be 15-1 when he is playing. Every coach has to adjust his game plan to stop oden offensively and defensively. We are on top b/c he makes every team adapt. He might not get his numbers because he is young, always double teamed, and of course...injured! When you take all of those things into consideration...well whats left to talk about? He isn't going first or second pick b/c nba teams want him from his hype. They know more then any of us about picking players...were just on the outside looking in.

Freshman year stats (pts, reb,fg% blks)

Oden 15.3 9.3 61% 3.5
DRob 7.6 3.9 62% 1.3
shaq 13.9 12 57% 3.6
ewing 12.7 7.5 63% 3.2
olaj 8.3 6.4 61% 2.5

Although i am not an oden fan inparticular, i still looked these numbers up. As you can see, oden is just as good as any of them if not the best. I personally think his numbers are the best overall of all those guys. Now add in the fact that he's been playing with a cast on his dominant hand the whole year and it's even more impressive. he's a freshman!

excellent post

oh yea...I do not think anyone is agreeing with that oden article except this website who probably comments on their own articles under fake names

I think Mike Conley is better and if the game were on the line, I'd rather have Conley with the ball then Oden.

(although technically, Oden will have likely fouled out already)

I still think Oden's just not that dominating. He's a very good defensive player (not the best in the nation, regardless of what the liberal media thinks). His offensive skills are on par with Ken Johnson). In fact, Ken averaged more blocked shots in both his junior and senior years. And did anyone say Ken Johnson was dominating?

For the 50th time...can we compare Oden with guys that are either 3-20 years older then them. GREAT argument comparing an 18 year old using 1 hand for most of the season to guys that are at full strength at 22 or older. I mean lets go back in time and say "Lebron James was equally as dominant in 1984 as a dead Bobby Phills." Let's just throw out the fact that Lebron James was less than 2 days old in that timespan.

Elliot..for the last time, you're missing the whole point. You only selectively took what you wanted out of Justin's argument. Nobody was saying Oden wasn't a pretty darn good freshman player. The question was whether he was as "dominant" as the media continues to suggest. He's not. He's a good player, but not dominating in any way. Defensively he's very good, but not dominating. Offensively, he can't move, has one post move, and can't put the ball on the floor.

if he came into the season under the radar, then I think people would call him dominant for a center. People want him to be a nba center right now. Every team knows he's there and is forced to take shots they don't want because they can't drive to the hoop unless they want to shoot a, not so accurate, rainbow shot! If he stayed in college as long as these other guys the article compared him to then he might be the best college center of all time...according to numbers which the author relies on for meaning everything(which his are GREAT). Imagine the cast coming off....thinking durant numbers easily.

haha alllright Jack...maybe you missed the point of learning to read in school.

"Gred Oden is not that good, in fact, he's not even the best player on his team! (See Mike Conley Jr.)"

Followed by a comparison to Olowakandi.

Yes it is an article saying that he is not that dominating...because he sucks. That IS the point of the article. The article isn't 50 reasons why Oden is good but Durant is better. Going on to slam him about his blocks is also another negative.

I can't believe how much we have talked about this article because it was so bad. The most inaccurate, easy, and hopeless crap I have read on this site. I hope I never have to read another article by this "guest" writer again.....unless he decides to make some good points. You ask what am I talking about? Read all these post that show and counter any possible arguement to support the article. Next time I advise you to write something where people will acknowledge that you made some good points. Not something stating an obvious path to gain reaction.

I agree with Eliot. It's one thing to say Oden isn't dominant. It's quite another to say he "isn't that good." So to recap: With one hand and 20 games under his belt as a 19 year old, Oden isn't as dominating as Hakeem or David Robinson. Glad you were able to point that out for us, guest writer. What is your next headline, "Rain is wet."

Has one person ever received so much criticism for writing one article? At least the guest writer has other articles to back him up...or is this his first???.... and hopefully last!!!

Hey "concerned reader" obviously if the assessment the writer made was so obvious, then people wouldn't be coming out of the woodwork criticizing him. It's one or the other. Either he's treading new water or he's saying what everyone else is saying. Which one is it? Hint, you can't have it both ways.

Hey "Oden's best friend," your spelling demonstrates that you probably truly are Oden's best friend. Also, Oden isn't dominating. There, the original writer was right (so much for your theory that nobody agrees with him).

As for Oden, start hanging out with people who can spell.

That is amazing...a spelling rebuttal, I will have to proof read my post next time for all the people who come to CursedCleveland.com at 12am to check for spelling errors. Being in graduate school I would like to think I can unwind when writing and expressing my thoughts on these post because I am not being spell checked. I suppose this means you do not have any more clever arguments to support yourself. That article was written with the imagination and point of view that my little cousin would use in his stories, but I should mention that he won't pass first grade until June. Maybe Oden can come help you with your ideas next time you are brainstorming. To take something so semi-personal from a “criticism” post, I must imagine that you are the writer or one of his lonely friends who has his back when dealing with on-line post. Your intelligence is overwhelming, so keep up the good work!

I don't think the person who wrote the story was a main writer "Have to get up soon", just a guest for that article. I agree that this person must be out of arguements for being a spelling critic on this post or maybe they teach english in high school. Funny come back post though and funny site! Go Cavs!

Sorry, I was being glib. I guess subtle humor is lost on this crowd. Next time, I'll make a fart joke.
